Story Time

I always loved cornflakes. Even when I was a kid, I used to eat cornflakes for breakfast and even for dessert. It is such a quick and easy breakfast that anyone can make it, even kids. I started with hot milk and had it for years. At that time I used to like soft, soggy, and mushy cereals. But later I tried cornflakes with cold milk and since then, I never had it with hot milk. Literally!

Earlier, I used to have Kellogg’s cornflakes. It was my go-to breakfast on busy weekdays. But then we started reading the ingredients of whatever food we consume. And that’s how Kellogg’s went away from our kitchen shelf. I never had it since then. It is full of sugar, chemicals, preservatives, and whatnot. And I don’t want to start my mornings with that. Then I started including cereals like Oats, Dalia, Millets, etc. But I always missed cornflakes. Nothing is as easy as that.

Then I found this new brand of cornflakes – Alnatura. It contains 99.9% cornflakes. With this brand, my favorite cereals are back in my kitchen. I love starting my mornings with cornflakes. But I make it more fancy and colorful. You must try it.

Are cornflakes with milk a healthy option for breakfast?

It depends on the cornflakes brand you choose. The popular brand Kellogg’s cornflakes are not healthy to consume. They are rich in sugar, chemicals, and preservatives. In one of my food courses, I studied that these cereals are so high in sugar that just one bowl of it a day fulfills your daily sugar requirement. And that too when the day has just started. That’s why I avoid this brand.

Recently, I came across a new brand of cornflakes – Alnatura. It contains 99.9% cornflakes. I add oat milk, nut butter, and some fruits, nuts, and seeds to make it wholesome and nutritious. That’s what I prefer. So, always check the ingredients list before buying your food items.

Moreover, I believe that anything can be healthy or unhealthy. It depends on how you consume it and whether it suits your body or not. Over-consumption of anything is not good at all. Be cautious of what you eat and eat in moderation.

What is the best way to make cornflakes?

You can enjoy cornflakes with just milk – hot or cold – and a little bit of sugar. But to make it more tasty, top it up with some nut butter, fruits, berries, nuts, and seeds. It tastes so amazing that you will crave it every day 🙂

Easy Swaps

  1. Cornflakes: You can use the same recipe for wheat flakes or any other breakfast cereal (instant) you enjoy. But I would suggest checking out the ingredients list on the pack and don’t buy something that has more than 2 to 3 ingredients.
  2. Maple Syrup: You get most of the sweetness from bananas. Use the ripe ones. But to add more sweetness, you can use sugar, jaggery, dates, date syrup, agave syrup, or any sweetener of your choice. Sometimes I even add a little bit of jam on the side. It tastes amazing.
  3. Oat Milk: Use any milk of your choice. You can even use curd instead.
  4. Peanut Butter: Use hazelnut butter, almond butter, or any nut butter you like.
  5. Fruits: Add anything that is available – apple, pears, figs, mango, berries, etc.
  6. Nuts & Seeds: Add anything that is available – almonds, cashews, pecans, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.
