The easiest and the quickest of all the Indian homemade snack recipes is – Puffed Rice or Murmura Namkeen. If you are an Indian Chai lover and every time needs something savory – Namkeen or salted snack – with your evening tea, then you must try it out. It is very light, simple, non-fried, and seasoned with flavors. Generally, peanuts in this snack recipe are fried in a lot of oil, but I made it with roasted peanuts and very less oil compared to other Murmura namkeens.
Story Time
It is funny when I say that Jatin never had this Namkeen until we got married. Isn’t it strange? I think so. Well, I guess he lived all his life in Delhi and this snack or namkeen was never very much popular there. I came to know about it because my mom always loved cooking different cuisines, all across the globe and she always made all kinds of recipes at home. My dad always focused on having home-made food and that is why most of the things were made in our home only.
But this recipe got somewhere lost as we grew up and I came to know about it when I went to work in Gujrat. people loved homemade murmura namkeen there and would get it in the office too. After marriage, when Jatin and I went to live in Pune, Maharashtra, then again I saw everybody enjoying this quick and easy snack recipe.
Because of all these hints, one day I decided to make it at home. And while I was making it, Jatin was not sure how it would taste. But then came the moment of surprise – I made one big jar of it and it was gone in one day. Literally! It is so light and addictive that you can keep on munching and won’t realize that the entire jar is finished. Then for some time whenever I made this snack, it would be finished in a day or two. Now because we both do not snack on namkeens, it is been a long time since I did not make it. But while writing this blog, I started craving so I am going to make it soon.
