Story Time

Some time back, I was in a cafe with a friend of mine. We met over breakfast and she ordered granola. Although, the granola she ordered had more curd and an extremely less quantity of strawberry sauce and granola in it. Anyway, that is not the point I want to focus on but that was funny to share 😀

Anyway, I always enjoy homemade granola (especially because I get to eat more granola) and would never prefer to buy it outside. But that time when I was with my friend, I tasted a spoon of granola from her bowl and it was very tasty. I wanted to eat more from her bowl but I resisted and thought that I would also try this combination at home with homemade granola and sauce. Luckily, strawberry is in season and it would be difficult not to buy this extra gorgeous and colorful fruit when you see it in stores. Though we are not a fan of strawberries but this time I bought a big crate of it only to make a jar of strawberry sauce.

I made a big batch of it and refrigerated it. We enjoy it not just with our granola but also made iced tea with it. It was also yum. I am going to share that recipe too on the blog. Just keep an eye out and watch out for the space.

What is Granola?

Granola is a quick and easy breakfast or snack food that is made up of rolled oats, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and some sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, etc. All these ingredients are mixed well and then cooked or baked together until golden brown and crispy. It comes in different varieties and flavors too and if you are making it at home, you can actually customize it as per your own taste buds.

You can add different kinds of nuts and seeds that are available, dried fruits like mango, apple, pineapple, etc. You can even add some spices like cinnamon, gingerbread spices, and nutmeg. Because we get so many different kinds of rolled grains these days like wheat or millet, we can customize it by using different kinds of grains and make it extra healthy and nutritious.

The best part is that you don’t need to cook it while serving it like other cereals or Musli. Just add it over curd or milk, top it up with some fresh fruits, and enjoy.

Easy Swaps

  1. Sugar – Sugar acts as a preservative that helps in increased shelf life. But if you want to avoid adding sugar, replace it with any other sweetener – maple syrup, stevia, or honey.

Ingredients

Steps

Strawberry Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, add finely chopped strawberries and brown sugar. Mix and cook on medium-low flame. It will release its juice and become soft.
  2. Keep mixing and mashing it from the back of your spatula.
  3. Meanwhile, mix cornstarch with water. Avoid any lumps. Keep it aside.
  4. Back to strawberries. After cooking it for 10 minutes, add the cornstarch slurry and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  5. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes till it thickens slightly. Once done, remove it from the flame and let it cool.
  6. It thickens further on cooling.
  7. Once cool completely, store it in a clean air-tight container. Refrigerate.
  8. If you want an extra smooth consistency, blend it and strain it using a sieve. But I prefer it slightly chunky. The consistency of this sauce is thick which makes it just perfect to eat with granola.
Serving Suggestion (per person)
  1. In a bowl, add 1/3 Cup of Curd or Yogurt. Top it up with 2 spoons of strawberry sauce (or as needed).
  2. Add some fresh fruits and berries on top along with some homemade granola.
  3. Finish it off with some fresh mint leaves. Serve right away and enjoy this crunchy and delicious breakfast.
  4. We prefer it as an evening snack.

Can we make Granola in the microwave?
+

You can surely make granola in the microwave if it has a convection setting. Simply preheat the microwave (for around 10 minutes) and then bake the ingredients at 180°C for around 30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally to avoid burning and to ensure even cooking.

Can we make Granola on the gas stove?
+

Yes. Of course. You can make the recipe on the gas stove but it would be more time taking and you need to keep mixing it continuously to avoid burning. To make it on the gas stove, you can mix all the ingredients together (except dried fruits) and add them to a greased pan. Cook on the lowest flame and toast until golden brown and crispy.
