15 Easy Ways To Eat Chia Seeds | Does Chia Seeds Help With Weight Loss?

The secret to getting the most benefits from Chia Seeds is by grinding them.

People have been eating Chia Seeds (Salvia Hispanica ) for thousands of years (around 5000 years). It means that it is safe to eat them. It is nutritious and has a lot of fiber, antioxidants (black chia seeds perhaps more than white), protein, vitamins (A and B complex), and minerals (calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, and zinc). Chia seeds are also known for their presence of a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids.

Chia seeds are gluten-free and provide medicinal properties due to bioactive compounds, which help combat many chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic diseases such as cancer. (source)

Additionally, they are gluten-free and hence appropriate for coeliac patients.

Does Chia Seeds help with weight loss?

Many YouTube Videos claim that Chia Seeds help with weight loss, but what does the science say? Dietary chia seeds do reduce belly fat…in rats. They also reduce the weight…of chickens. What happens if you add a teaspoon or two of chia seeds to yogurt as a snack?

As per the research studies by Dr. Michael Greger – Chia seed does not promote weight loss or alter disease risk factors in overweight adults. In a study, subjects were randomized to a whole tablespoon of chia seed twice a day before their first and last meal for 12 weeks, and the researchers found that “chia seed does not promote weight loss” after all. That is disappointing!

In a randomized controlled trial, one group was given about two tablespoons of ground chia a day, and another group got a fiber-matched control made of mostly oat bran. That way, if there was weight loss, we’d know it wasn’t due just to the fiber, but something particular to the chia. Those eating the ground chia lost significantly more weight and more waist in terms of waist circumference, which is a measure of belly fat. As a bonus, they had a decrease in their c-reactive protein levels, suggesting an anti-inflammatory effect as well.

Conclusion: Ground Chia Seeds help with weight loss, not the whole ones. Moreover, you can absorb more omega-3 with ground chia seeds.
