Story Time

Jatin is passionate about making cold beverages or mocktails at home. He tried so many recipes using different fruits and veggies. During the summertime, he would always make some cold beverages while we have our dinner. It feels fancy and makes dinner on a hot summer day really enjoyable and romantic.

The idea of this mocktail came up when we went to an Asian restaurant recently. We ordered some cold beverages there and they were made of tamarind. It felt different and tasted very good. Then we decided to try a drink at home using tamarind. We cracked the recipe and now we make it quite often during the summer season.

What is tamarind?

Tamarind is a fruit that is grown on trees. It is readily found in tropical Africa and Asia. It is also known as Imli in Hindi language. You can consume it raw or even ripe and pulpy. Both are sweet and sour and taste just so good. Every kid in India enjoys eating Imli. It is nutritious and has various health benefits. It also helps in boosting your immunity.

Imli is used in many different cuisines like South Indian Sambar, Rasam, Tamarind Rice, Tamarind Chutney, etc. It adds a nice tanginess to the recipes.

What does Tamarind taste like?

Tamarind is a fruit that is sour when it is raw and gets slightly sweet and sour when it is ripe. It is added in a lot of different Indian recipes to add some tanginess or sourness to them. While consuming it, make sure to remove the seeds and thread-like strands from them.
