Story Time

Jatin is passionate about making cold beverages or mocktails at home. He tried so many recipes using different fruits and veggies. During the summertime, he would always make some cold beverages while we have our dinner. It feels fancy and makes dinner on a hot summer day really enjoyable and romantic.

During the summer season when we get all these gorgeous berries, I feel like buying them all and eating as much as I can. I would try and make different recipes. Although we both are not a fan of strawberries, we still buy them and make something interesting from them. I already tried strawberry compote with granola, strawberry cheesecake, and now this – Strawberry Mocktail. Now, I keep a jar of strawberry compote in my refrigerator so that I can make this amazing drink any time.

Like I always say, homemade is always the best. Making it is extremely simple and easy and you are ensured of good quality ingredients too. So, make it at home instead of buying strawberry squash or other squash or juice from the stores.

What is a Mocktail?

Mocktail is a drink, a cold beverage that is made without using any alcohol. A cocktail on the other hand is a drink that requires alcohol in it. Mocktails are very popular in India since we have many people who do not prefer to consume alcohol there. That is why you can easily find different kinds of fancy mocktails there.

Steps

Strawberry Compote
  1. Remove the green leaves from the strawberries and finely chop them.
  2. To a saucepan, add finely chopped strawberries, salt, lemon juice, and sugar. Mix, cook, and keep mashing them from the back of the spatula. Keep stirring in between.
  3. Cook on high flame until you get a slightly thick but pourable consistency of compote or sauce. It takes around 20 minutes.
  4. Once done, remove it from the flame and let it cool down completely.
  5. Store in an air-tight container and refrigerate.
  6. If you do not like chunks in your drink, strain using a sieve. You will get a thick strawberry sauce. I like chunks so I will leave it that way.
Serving (per glass)
  1. In a glass, add 1 to 2 Tbsp of Strawberry Compote.
  2. Crush some fresh basil leaves and add them to the glass.
  3. Fill the glass with some ice cubes or crushed ice and pour over the soda or sparkling water. Serve right away.
  4. If you need more sweetness, add maple syrup.
Alternatives
  1. Substitute soda or sparkling water with any cold drink like Sprite or Dew.
  2. 2. If you want to avoid soda, add water instead.
